A BITTERN\'S HOME IS HIS CASTLE WATER!
During the summer, work went ahead to create more reedbed at Castle Water, near Rye. Contractors dug out ditches and pools in a field and created shallow areas in adjacent lakes with the spoil. The excavated areas and the shallow lake edges will be planted up with reeds.
Up to 7 bitterns spend the winter at Castle Water and it is hoped that this work will provide them with a perfect summer home for breeding too.
