Booming Early! Bitterns Seen and Heard 2006

The first booming bitterns of 2006 have been heard across the country.

Wigan Flashes, the Lancashire Wildlife Trust site in Lancashire, heard their first booming bittern of 2006 on 5th February and the first booming male of 2006 has been heard 9 days earlier than last year at the RSPB Leighton Moss reserve near Carnforth in Lancashire.

A boomer was heard at the RSPB Minsmere reserve during the first week in February and a total of 6 bitterns have been seen at the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust site, Potteric Carr, Doncaster.
